Kevin facilitating in Annika's absence

Yalla Collective event, 3:00pm, 22nd of June

  • Aleea is running a community arts knowledge sharing/cooking/storytelling/dancing/eating event around Dolmates with the Lebanese and Greek communities.
  • Kevin is proposing to run as Fleurs Street joint event so they can be supported through the FS public liability cover, meeting space and kitchen.
  • The group agreed to support the event.


Communify report back

  • Follow up on the preference of a sink over a dishwasher if grant application succeeds
    • Miranda has confirmed that both are covered as part of the grant. Applications close in July.
  • Rumour of replacement of main (dual-door) fridge by Communify
    • It is just a rumour - perhaps confusion over the discussion of a donated fridge intended for the hall.
  • Communify Acacia Ridge
    • Staff and community are shaken up by the recent violent incidents on Mortimer Road
    • May require some support from Fleurs Street e.g. using space for vigil
    • Group is supportive.


Willow Raffle

  • Ariya has been buying a lot of tickets and donating the winnings to FS
  • About 25 of the FS community are coming every week
  • Sue's neighbour, who won the Mother's Day prize has expressed her gratitude to FS


Insurance

  • Public liability and volunteer public injury has been renewed for 12 months.
  • Now covers 10 volunteers simultaneously for personal injury.


Annika returns

BCC food license inspection - Thursday, 23rd of May

  • Kevin briefed group on the history of the food licensing disputes, why it is not possible for FS to obtain a food license in the near future and the need to fit into a licensing exemption to continue operating.
  • Council environmental health inspectors will conduct an inspection at 10:00am to check that the FS practices fall under the exemptions for food licensing. If there are any violations found, FS is likely to be fined.
  • The exemption aimed for is that not-for-profit orgs are able to serve food without a license as long as they are not "meals" - where a "meal" refers to a substantially-sized, sit-down meals eaten with cutlery.
  • Although the inspection is primarily about the food license, the inspectors are also likely to check for compliance to the
  • The crew are cleaning and organising the kitchen and food storage areas in preparation through a series of working bees.
  • Kevin will meet with the inspector and Annika will be running the kitchen on the day; they will co-ordinate a menu that is obviously "not a meal" and attempt to be as compliant to the food safety code as possible.
  • Suggestion from Robert: contact other groups who run food operations for advice on licensing e.g. Northey Street


Roles vacated/needing to be filled

  • Secretary
    • Toby has indicated that he will resign as soon as a replacement is found.
    • ACTION: Office bearers need to find and appoint a new secretary.
  • External co-ordinator
    • Kevin will step back from after the 23rd of May
    • Will need to find one or more people to:
      • Maintain relationship with Communify and the tenancy arrangement for the Moorooka facility. Communify may need to be consulted for suggestion of who they think may be suitable.
      • Maintain relationship with council and other external bodies.
    • ACTION: Group needs to find a new external co-ordinator
  • Shopping
    • Scarlett has stepped back from the shopping.
    • Rowie will cover shopping until Annaliese returns in two weeks.
    • Shoppers will need to buy coffee from Aldi after Kevin's departure.


AGM 2024

  • Needs to be organised between July and December 2024.
  • Templates are available from the previous AGM.

  • The following members have asked for their bank account access to be revoked as they are no longer used:
    • Melanie Simpson (also minuted in December 2023 GM)

Food donations from the Annerley Church of Christ

  • Sue is investigating the possibility of weekly food donations
  • ACTION: Annika will write a formal letter of request from FS


Financial (How to operate with smaller budget)

  • ACTION: Ask Anna to come to next GM to discuss financials


Statement of purpose

  • Annika has suggested that a statement be written to articulate the motivations, principles and methods of the space.


Disappearing pantry items

  • Some people may have been told that they can take food without asking
  • Signs have been put up to indicate that food in fridge and storage are for the kitchen


Thank you gifts

  • Vicki has asked for a card and small gift for Toby, Scarlett and Izzy, who have recently stepped back from their roles.
