Voting: Understanding what are we voting for
THIS IS IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE VOTING!!!
- We are voting on the name for the incorporated association. That is, we are voting for the name for the group or collective rather than the for any kitchen/cafe or any of the individual enterprises such as the Free Shop or gardens.
- Some of the names proposed may have been proposed as names for the kitchen/cafe and may not be appropriate as an association name; please consider this in your choices.
- In the vote, you will be able to pick one or more names from the list of proposed names below. It would be helpful to pick more than one name as this will produce a better spread of votes and would represent voters' secondary preferences.
- Please read through the names carefully, including the notes left by the person who suggested the name.
- The name must end with "Inc." or "Incorporated" as a requirement of registration.
- Many of the names proposed below can not be registered as stated because they are similar to names already registered or because they do not comply to the registration policies; see the section below on the naming limitations for more details. If a name can't be registered, it is will be modified after voting e.g. by adding a specifier such as "Moorooka" or "Clifton Street" to distinguish our association from the organisations already registered.
- Another vote may be necessary in the future e.g. in case of a draw or if there are registration problems that can not be resolved.

| Name | Proposed By | Notes |
| The Collective Cafe, Inc. | Aaron (29 Dec 2022) | Not supplied |
| Collective Revival, Inc. | Ru (31 Dec 2022) | Not supplied |
| Common Grounds, Inc. | Ru (29 Dec 2022) | Not supplied |
| Bureau of Deeper Democracy, Inc. | Liz (29 Dec 2022) | An "art" name, reflecting the origins of the project and future grant applications |
| Clifton Street Free Spaces, Inc. | Kevin (28 Dec 2022) | States one of our defining principles (i.e. we offer food/supplies/clothes/events/services without payment) but also hints at our organic structure and the contested nature of our existence. The name could also be "Fleur Street Free Spaces, Inc." |
| Clifton Street Commons, Inc. | Liz and Kevin (29 Dec 2022) | Kevin: refers the contemporary urban commons where social resources are self-governed independently of state or market; the street location pins the association to our specific instance of "the commons". The name could also be "Fleur Street Free Spaces, Inc." |
| Friends of Moorooka, Inc. | Julie (19 Dec 2022) | Not supplied |
| ICU, Inc. | Liz (31 Dec 2022) | Acronym suggestive of Intensive Care Unit - because we care. |
| The Liberation Collective, Inc. (TLC, Inc.) | Aaron, Indy, Liz (31 Dec 2022) | Not supplied |
| Collective Surround, Inc. | Ru (4 Jan 2023) | Not supplied |
| Moorooka's Meeting Place, Inc. | Julie (19 Dec 2022) | Not supplied |
| Melting Pot - Moorooka, Inc. | Aaron (26 Dec 2022) | Not supplied |
| Social Exchange, Inc. | Mel (26 Dec 2022) | i think the word exchange better explains or implies what we are about and what we do. As an exchange doesnt have to be monetary. Keeping Social in the name I think allows people to know that we are the same people as the old social space. Also the Acronym sounds cool. Say it SX. It is simple. i think a total rebrand could confuse people where as keeping "social" in the name implies we are the same mob / crew /posse / gang. |
| Space Cadets, Inc. | Liz (30 Dec 2022) | After what Cami called us all (affectionately) on chat. |
| The Surrounds Collective, Inc. | Lauren (28 Dec 2022) | Not supplied |
| Tawny Hamlet, Inc. | Shahni (30 Dec 2022) | A hamlet is a small village without (belonging to) a church and the tawny (frogmouth) symbolises synchronicity, nature (and becoming one with), positive camouflage, spirit, things falling into place, oneness, unification, breakthrough |
| Tawny's Meeting Place, Inc. | Julie (28 Dec 2022) | Not supplied |
| Urban Praxis, Inc. | Liz (29 Dec 2022) | An "art" name, reflecting the origins of the project and future grant applications |
Notes on Name Proposals
You do not need to read the remainder of this page to vote. However, the following notes are included for anyone who would like to know more about the naming process and restrictions.
Name of Incorporated Association
- We are proposing names for the volunteer collective that currently run the kitchen, free shop, gardens, laundry, etc.
- It is not necessarily the name for the kitchen, meeting space, site, etc.
Limitations on Name
There are some limitations the new name:
- Should not be similar to "The Social Space" as this would associate us to the building/facility and Belong/Communify and suggest that they are liable for our actions; once this association is removed, we will have more liberties e.g. with content on social media.
- Can only contain English characters, numbers and simple punctuation.
- Must end with "Incorporated" or "Inc."
- It can not be similar to an existing association, business, co-operative or company name. You can search for existing names using the ASIC Register Search Function. You will need to select "Organisation and Business Name" as the part of the search criteria.
- Can't be easily confused with names of government agencies, institutions, etc.
A full list of restrictions is in the Associations Incorporation Regulation 1999.
