Notes from Working Group Meeting - Thu, 18 Feb, 10:00-12:00, TSS

Phone hub: (Rob)

  • Very positive response - about five people indicated they would be attend the cafe

Posters:

  • Many poster opportunities in Annerley but none at Stones Corner (Helen)
  • Library was unwilling to accept poster (Helen)
  • Good response at Moorooka shops (Rob)

Facebook:

  • Should be sharing event on various pages with comments in increase visibility

To do for cafe on 21st of February:

  • Action: create XR Australia sign-up card with QR code (Kevin)
  • Action: create resource sheet as take-away for visitors (Kevin)
  • Facebook follow-up:
    • Action: check that cafe event has been posted on XR Meanjin feed - follow up with Lee (Helen)
    • Action: check that cafe event has been co-hosted by XR Meanjin - check with Rene (Kevin)

Minutes of Working Group Meeting - Sat, 31 Jan, 10:00-12:00, TSS

Time: Sunday, 31st January 11:00 - 13:00
Location: The Social Space
Present: Rob, Geraldine, Kevin (facilitator and notetaker)
Apologies: Helen

Intended Audience:

  • People worried about climate change but don't know what they can do
  • People suffering from climate grief
  • People feeling alone with their thoughts and feelings (as per the Climate Cafe doc)

Organisation:

  • Develop initial idea in XRBS only
  • Will seek a broader organisation participation from other XR Brisbane groups in the later stages of development
  • No interest in combined event with other activist groups

Event:

  • Informal conversation with facilitator to
    • Introduce event
    • Introduce TSS
    • Set up the rules of engagement
    • Make sure everyone has an opportunity to speak
  • XR will ideally be represented by a spread of age groups
  • Some experienced counsellors may be required to manage climate grief - Geraldine didn't see the need for this, feeling that many of us experience climate grief and can still function in the group. Counselling has a different role.
  • Draw representatives from other XR Brisbane groups
  • 1.5 hour duration
  • Fortnightly, on Sundays
  • First event: 12th of February (uncertain)
  • Review after each event and continually develop from reflections

  • XR Brisbane FB pages
  • Community FB - Annerley, Moorooka, Yeronga?
  • Community notice boards
  • Door knocking
  • Businesses
  • Letter box drop

Signage:

  • Initially: one large banner required that is visible from the street

Action Points:

  • Kevin:
    • Post notes from meeting on Wiki for general review
    • Present consolidated proposal at next GM
  • Rob: Will keep track of what other states are doing in National Mobilisation meetings to feedback to the SS group.

 


Notes after Meeting - Wed, 27 Jan, 19:30-20:00, TSS

  • Agreed approach: a broader, less-directed approach is favoured although mobilisation is an important focus - we are in a climate emergency!
  • Cafe working group formed:
    • Members: Rob, Geraldine, Helen, Kevin
    • Target: concrete proposal to be presented at the GM on the 8th of February
    • Next working group meeting: TSS on Sunday, 31 Jan 11:00 - 12:30 (Contact Kevin for Zoom link)
