Short Briefing for XR Representatives

  • This a summary for XR Reps - it accompanies a more detailed programme
  • Although there is a structure, the facilitator will approvise according to numbers of visitors and specifics of the day
    • This structure is intended for 2-10 visitors.
  • The schedule:
    • 9:00 - Set-up (Clear the grounds, put up signage, set up chairs)
    • 10:00 - Group session (Introduction, group discussion)
    • 10:45 - Small group discussions
    • 11:15 - Group session
    • 11:30 - Close
    • 11:45 - Debrief
  • Objectives:
    • For XR Reps, the cafe is primarily a listening exercise
    • Reps should:
      • Create a respectful and safe environment for visitors
      • Allow visitors to speak without judgement
      • Promote discussion amongst the visitors
      • Make sure all visitors have an opportunity to speak
      • Take note of the topics discussed
      • Refer to counsellor if required
      • XR Reps should be relaxed and be "themselves"
  • The cafe is not a forum for debate
  • Recruitment is not a priority (at the cafe)
    • At the end of the day, some visitors will leave contact details
    • There will be an extensive follow-up process to ascertain interests and skills, find paths of involvement, buddy-up, etc.
      • There is no need to discuss XR process and practices unless prompted by visitors
  • Photos/video - always seek consent from everyone (even when out of shot)! No photos and videos - this compromises the safe environment
