Food Procurement - Weekly Shopping Procedure

Tuesday is my maintenance day at the social space

i go there early morning and do the grocery list shop then go back unpack - then do the cleaning

  1. I check the fridge
  2. I do an inventory of what we need all this depends on season this is pretty standard fair.

i generally buy this from Cocos unless I go to the markets.

I buy what is cheap and good quality usually around $250 per week including milk coffee from Aldi.

  • eggs 2 dozen in the fridge I only buy organic or free range
  • onions 15Kg 3 weeks
  • capsicums generally around 10 per week
  • potatoes 10 kg
  • pumpkins 1 per week
  • carrots 3kgs a week
  • courgettes 2 kg
  • aubergine ~~
  • beetroots
  • cabbage x1
  • cauliflower x3 in season
  • spinach i generally buy it in a bag 2kg
  • Fennel
  • celery
  • salads stuff we have greens in the garden so these need to be treated as a resource salad is super expensive atm.


DAIRY
I buy yogurt from Cocos and vegan cheese, that's all, dont be tempted to buy cheese from Cocos its super expensive, I never buy cheeses from Cocos.

I buy most dairy from continental foods / Blossom they come in with the 3 monthly order.. see sample order.

  • natural yogurt 2 litres Cocos brand.

 

WOOLWORTHS

  • milk- 12 soya 6 oat 6 almond we put it in the fridge it cool and is better and keeps the cost of running the fridge lower.

I only every buy on special - if oat and almond are on sale I buy 12 because it is often not available on sale.

 SAM COCO

  • sunflower seeds
  • cranberries
  • tahinai best to buy a large jar 2 litres
  • cans of lentils (handy for salads)
  • cans of chic peas ( handy for salads)


ALDI

  • Coffee medium roast 1 kg bags I generally buy 8 at a time but dont take them all into the kitchen why becaue the coffee is stored under the coffee machine and it get a bit warm


CLEANING PRODUCTS

  • dishwashing liquid
  • dishwasher tablets only every buy on special I buy a the biggest box and always keep an eye out for when they come on special they are very expensive
  • disinfectant
  • toilet cleaner I usually make my own vinegar eucalyptus oil and a teaspoon of dish liquid i put this into the toilet bottle... I never leave the bottles in the toilet because they get taken.
  • I buy sponges from Woolies
  • Toilet paper i order through belong along with the hand wash.

I place this order with reception.

  • washing powder Woolies on sale only we go through a KG a month, will be more once the laundry is up and running


GARDENS
Sadly I go to Bunning's

  • mops get stolen
  • mats go walky
  • mop buckets
  • brooms

keep an eye on them they get taken and its a bummer... and expensive to replace.

 ALL OTHER STUFF
See order list for continental we have a 3 month standard order. see attached. There is also a much greater choice I have a very standard order beans, lentils, oils, fetta cheese, drinking chocolate, all sorts of stuff even butter and pastry. I put an order in every 3 months the cost ranges from 400 to 600 all depends on how much we use...it's simple enough .
