General Induction (for All Groups) [Draft]
- Establish how the new volunteer would like to be involved.
- If there is a particular area they would like to volunteer (e.g Free Shop, Gardens), linking up this new person with someone in the respective WG would be good, as they will have the necessary knowledge to impart.
- Tour of the building: garden beds, compost, free shop, pantry, laundry, hall. Can provide a brief exlpaination of how each space operates and interacts. E.g pantry is where food is stored, as well as free shop donations sorted, meetings happen.
- Explaination about The Social Space - it's history, our presence in and access to spaces within the building, what's in the horizon for us
- Explanation of the relationship with Belong - Belong hold the lease and pay some expenses; we independently organise; hall and office (during office hours) remain under their management.
Kitchen Volunteers [Draft]
This procedure is intended for those intersted in joinging the general kitchen effort.
- Daily kitchen procedures. This will also vary depending on when a new volunteer comes, and what they want to learn.
- Turning on coffee machine/how to use it
- Muffin mix
- Emptying dishwasher
- Planning and starting the meal/salads/sides (quanitites, using up sad veggies first, plant indentification for salads)
- Explaining different roles in the kitchen
- Outdoor set up (wiping tables, sweeping, opening free shop, watering garden, putting out A-frame, dishes trolley)
- Keys/passcodes (at what point do we share these with people?)
- Day dependent tasks - bins, fridge clean out etc.
- Serving and timing
- Cleaning: coffee machine, sweeping, mopping, bins out, dishwasher, compost, rubbish (waste, recycling, milk bottle lids, soft plastics)
Questions for our group to consider and address
- Keys/passcordes - at what point do we start sharing these with new volunteers?
- Point person for each WG, to direct new volunteers to? Eg a new person wants to get involved with Gardening, who do they talk to?
